A Noo Deal for Noo Awlins
- Chris Matthews, astonished, says Bush sounded like a combination of FDR and LBJ, the program redolent of the New Deal and the War on Poverty.
- David Brooks continues admitting his sorrowful conversion.
- Tucker Carlson says "This is not a conservative president" (and that "the base" and House Repubs are going to have a lot of problems with his promises).
- Skeptics and cynics are leaping to the bait.
Me? I heard Bush set the table for martial law the next time.

I heard him calling for the army. First this army of compassion, than the army of soldiers. Beyond that Bush seemed alternately to oversell his goods, then oddly inappropriate in aspect. Not convincing.

I heard him talk about involving the army more, and all that I could think was: this is an age of growing militarization.
