Hackett Shames Schmidt (OH-2)
Bob Brigham of SwingStateProject is on the ground with the Paul Hackett campaign, live-blogging today's watershed TV appearances two days ahead of the Hackett v. Schmidt smackdown in OH-2.
Hackett uses the resounding phrase, the Culture of Corruption, to describe and expose the debased Republican machine in Ohio. It says, in four short words, exactly what we're fighting all the way to the White House.
Hackett, as you surely know, is the come-from-behind Democrat hoping to beat Republican Jean Schmidt in Tuesday's special election for the House seat in Ohio's 2nd congressional district.
He's been endorsed by Wes Clark. He's been endorsed by Democracy for America. He's been endorsed by, embraced by, and recently showered with money and campaign volunteers by the liberal blogosphere.
The revelations that Schmidt has lied all along about her relationship with Tom Noe (the "Coingate" scandal; this FindLaw piece is must reading, if you've got a castiron stomach) — about not knowing him, about never having met him — are no surprise to bloggers. Her disingenuous disclaimers couldn't pass the smell test stank like a rotting carcass. And now the documents are at hand to prove that she was lying.
By the way, to see Hackett is to love him. He's got a big, handsome, generous smile; an open face that tells you all about his big heart, vitality and passion. He'll be a great congressman, and a straight-arrow, clean representative of the people.
May the Force be with him!
